Endless Possibilities With Ground Meat

Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Repeat daily, for the rest of our lives.

How do our stomach manage to do so much work? I wonder.

But above all, how much effort we spend each day in preparing those meals that took us minutes to finish?

Hmmm...

Based on what I mentioned above, I asked myself if I could reduce cooking time. I mean, the entire process, so I could have more time to do other things.

I have experimented with a few different methods.

Here, I would like to share one of them.

USE ONE MAIN INGREDIENT FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK'S MEALS

Let me introduce you to the ALL CAPABLE...

GROUND MEAT!

If you want variety, you could buy different kinds of ground meat - chicken, beef, mutton, pork.

Buy as much as you need for a week's meal.

Marinate all at once.

Ingredients: Minced garlic and shallots, soy sauce, tapioca or corn starch, sesame oil (optional), grated ginger (for beef and mutton only), egg (optional)

Plan and prepare the ingredients ahead. Before the beginning of a new week.

DAY 1

Fry with some oil, add dark soy sauce and sugar (optional).

This can be toppings for, or served with:

1. Steamed tofu
2. Dry noodles
3. Omelet
4. Any blanched vegetables
5. Simply eat with rice or noodles and some herbs or salad
6. Or use to make spaghetti bolognese

DAY 2

Fry with some oil and then add water. Next...

1. Add diced potatoes (and carrots, peas) and simmer until potatoes become soft.
2. Add diced tofu, cook for a few minutes, add diluted tapioca starch to thicken the sauce and serve.

DAY 3

Make into burger patties and store in freezer

When needed, take out from the freezer and pan fry immediately. You can serve in different ways...

1. With veggies, salad, eggs, cheese
2. With rice and veggies
3. With pasta
4. As a burger with salad and fries

DAY 4

Make into meatballs and store in freezer.

When needed, take them out and pan fry. You do not need a lot of oil to do so. These can be served with

1. Pasta
2. As a side dish with rice or noodles and vegetables
3. Serve with bread and salad
4. Make meatball skewers
5. You can also steam the meatballs and serve with vegetables.

DAY 5

Boil a pot of water, add in the minced meat, with other ingredients such as fried anchovies and big onions to make simple broth.

1. Use the broth for noodles soup
2. Add vegetables, fish balls, mushrooms to the broth and eat it with rice
3. Use the broth to make rice porridge

If you see clearly, you will see minced meat in the porridge.

DAY 6

Pre wrapped into wanton, siu mai or dumplings. You can add vegetables such as Chinese cabbage or chives and mushrooms when marinating for this recipe.

1. Make dumplings or wanton soup and serve with rice or noodles
2. Deep fry them and serve as a side dish

DAY 7

1. Use as toppings for pizza
2. Make a chicken pie
3. Make some curry puffs or empanada

These are just some of the food you can make using ground meat.

Your creativity is the only limit!

Happy cooking!😁

Stress Free Mode

Now, as I typed on my laptop, my 5 year-old daughter sits in front of me, doing her own work. She is doing something on her own. Something that no one tells her to do. It is 100% at her own will. She is copying from a storybook. It is a Malay storybook she borrowed from school. And she is trying to read as she copies.  She is smiling as she tries to read the words and although she still struggles with many of the words, she is smiling while she tries. Once in a while, she would ask me how to pronounce a certain syllable.  And now, she is singing out the words she copies.  _________________________________________________ This scene, right in front of me, is the result of an important lesson I learnt a year ago.  I learnt that, for effective learning to take place, the learner should be in a "stress free mode".  And for them to be in that mode, it most probably has to be something they find interesting or rather, something they w...

Counting With Objects

It is crucial to let children count with real objects. I learnt this lesson a few years ago. My son could recognise numbers 1 to 10 at around 2 years old. I naively thought he understood what they meant. When he was 4 and struggled with addition, it finally dawn on me... What have I taught him about numbers? Nothing! So I came up with a series of counting activities for him. I could still remember we had at least one week of continuous counting lessons! WEEK 14: MATHEMATICS TOPIC: COUNTING WITH OBJECTS ACTIVITY 1 Counting the same objects Materials: Use similar objects from groups of 1 to 10. If your child/student is a beginner, you can start with 1 to 3 or 1 to 5, depending on the child. You can use straws, ice-cream sticks, lego bricks, etc. As long as you have enough quantity to carry out the activity.  If you have ready number pieces, use them. Otherwise use small pieces of papers and write down a number on each paper.  On the floor or the table...

Bedtime Routine with Big Lego and Small Lego

Lego again??! Yes. Lego is a big part of our everyday lives and there is a reason for that. FAMILIARITY. Because Lego has been part of our lives since my first child was one year old and it was being played almost everyday. And it is still being played everyday. Familiarity makes learning easier. It also makes teaching easier. Well, in this case, it is not so much about teaching but about a little variation in our bedtime routine. Big Lego and Small Lego: Based on my son's imagination We have been reading bedtime stories to the children since my first child was about 8 months old. And a few years down the road, I thought it was time for some changes. Instead of reading them stories, I started telling them stories and the main characters were Big Lego and Small Lego. They knew that I was referring to both of them, and they were always very attentive, eager to know how I would describe them in the stories. If they would be the kind, the mischief or the brave one....
