FUN PLAY: STACK AND BUILD

Hi! It's time for some fun play! As I have mentioned in my earlier posts, I would be putting up an activity for kids every week and this week, I am sharing with you some simple fun we had when my children were younger. I happen to have some photos of them playing "stacking" and "building" using boxes, Jenga pieces, pillows and some other toys and household items. Watching my children at play has been one of my favourite hobbies and I get to know them better as I watch them doing what they love. OK. Lets get started. Fun Within Your Home

SCENARIO A "I feel so lonely. I have lost most of my friends since I become a stay-at-home mom. We have no friends to go out with." SCENARIO B "I don't feel safe taking the kids out on my own without my hubby. It is safer to have one adult to one child when we are in public places."  SCENARIO C "It's too tiring. The packing, unpacking, putting them on the child seat, one by one."  SCENARIO D "The hand foot mouth disease (HFMD) is getting out of hand. Better stay indoors."   Whatever your reasons, please do not let them stop you and your children from having fun. IT'S ALL IN THE MIND, you know. ALL IN THE MINDSET.  You can still have loads of fun by staying indoors. Believe me. I have survived being a stay-at-home mom for seven years, with only two children and a handful of friends I meet occasionally.  If your children are bored of playing indoor games you can bring the outdoor activities indoor....

Brisket Bone Chinese Yam Soup

Do you like soup? I believe the Chinese do because soup is always one of the dishes served at a banquet or at reunion dinners.  I remember my mom used to prepare soup very often because she had to work so she just use the slow cooker to make it and when my sister and I got home after school, we would serve ourselves to lunch. We had beef soup very often that it is almost the only soup I remember drinking during my childhood days.  However, in my own household, we do not cook beef very often so I only make either chicken or pork soup.  THIS WEEK'S SPECIAL: Brisket bone (pork) Chinese yam soup Ingredients: Brisket bones (300-400g), Chinese yam (30cm), tomato (1 large), yellow onion (1 large), carrots (1), leek, ginger (1), garlic (1 clove), salt (to taste), water (700ml) and Chinese parsley for garnish.  1. Parboil the brisket bones for about 2 minutes.  2. Boil the water in a pot.  3. Meanwhile, prepare and cut a...

Days Off and Short Breaks

HONEY, I'M GOING ON A BUSINESS TRIP I love it when my hubby is out of town because those would be my days off!! 😜 Don't get me wrong. We are in good terms. It is just that whenever he isn't around, I have one less boss/client to "look after" SO I get to plan activities according to (solely)  my interest, have more " me time ", AND *meet up with my friends (with the children tagging along). MY DAYs OFF I see these days as my "Days Off". Mainly because I get to catch up with friends AND I get to have quiet times at night after the kids are in bed. ( Who says SAHMs need to go on a holiday to wind down? I get mine on these nights, while at home. Shh! I hope my hubby doesn't read this post ) OK. What do I do on these nights? Pampering myself with a glass of birds nest on a "Day Off" night. Read the book of my choice in peace Catch up with a friend online Listen to my favourite songs whi...

Self Motivation to the Rescue

Feeling down? Lonely? Uncertain of the future? Or perhaps you feel " useless " because you are " just " a stay-at-home mom, doing household chores 24/7? Self motivation to the rescue! Yes, you read it right. Self motivation. Because that's the only thing that can get you going. Years after being a stay-at-home mom, I told myself: I have the need to have better achievements. My life is not just about household chores or kids related stuff.  I wanted to do things that make me  happy . Things that I worked for myself. Not necessarily something that generates income (it would be ideal if it does) but rather, that results in "happiness". Something that  brightens up my day . Something that  makes life a delightful experience .  TAKING LITTLE ADVENTURES OF MY OWN With both children attending school in the morning, I decided to have little adventures of my own and make the most out of the "me time" that I have.  Exploring bus...

Art and Craft: Trees

Hi! How are you today? I am back here for the first kids activity post for this blog. I hope that I can share an activity each week. Hope you'll like it. 😁 Week 1: ART AND CRAFT WITH KIDS Topic: TREES PROJECT A Proir to this particular project, we dyed some strings. The next day, I thought it would be nice to make a picture out of it. So we made this. Materials: Coloured strings, glue and pencil to sketch the picture beforehand.  A Garden PROJECT B This is one of my son's earliest art and craft projects.  We made a city for him to play with. Here you can see some trees along the road.  We simply rolled some papers to make the trunks and then crumpled green coloured papers for the leaves.  My City PROJECT C This is another 3D tree that we made.  We painted a toilet roll for the trunk. You can also wrap it with brown paper. It would be less messy and quicker.  Next, we put some skewers across ...

Of Palace Maids and Housewives

THE PALACE MAIDS How does physical appearance effect you? Is it important to be well groomed especially at work?Does it affect how others see you? Does it make you feel more confident? Shortly before I became a stay-at-home mom, my hubby made a remark on the palace maids (in Korean dramas) that had stuck in my brain till now. One day, while watching Korean drama, he casually said: Ah! The palace maids are so well groomed. Why don't you become a housewife who dresses prettily everyday as you carry out your tasks? Haha! I brushed it off with a laughter. But deep down I thought: Why not? If I were to become a housewife (I was still working at that time), I would make sure I do not dress like a maid. I would groom myself well and look presentable at all times. If the maids of the elite families or the royals should be well groomed, I am sure being a well groomed housewife would be necessary. Hmm. Which is better? WHY  BEING WELL GROOMED IS IMPORTANT It is a FEEL GOOD F...
